International sculptor, Linda Joyce has donated the beautiful portrait pictured above, of the iconic Frankenstein author, Mary Shelley. The portrait will live in the proposed Shelley Trust Heritage Museum in Bournemouth, England, the final resting place of the Shelley family. Let's celebrate her connection to the town and memorialise Mary Shelley’s remarkable legacy in literature, science fiction, the arts and education.
This GoFundMe appeal aims to raise £25,000 for two bronze castings, to cover expenses for the Bournemouth Shelley Festival and to kick start the Shelley Trust, allowing the volunteer led group to move forward as a registered charity and with museum plans.
The first casting of Mary will live in Bournemouth and the second will go on tour starting at the birthplace of Mary Shelley, at the People’s Museum Somers Town in London, NW1.
The Bronzes are being made at Basingstoke based, Sculpture Castings Ltd, using a thousand-year-old method.
In 2021, The Shelley Trust Heritage Museum plan was awarded a place on Heritage Compass, Cause4’s brand-new Business support programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport.
The museum will celebrate local history, the Shelley legacy and aid learning, creativity and well-being as a community space for social prescribing while boosting the local economy through tourism and regenerating the environment.
As part of her Icons & Legends collection, Linda Joyce sculpted the portrait live at the South Coast Makers Market in the re-opened Bobby & Co of Bournemouth.
Limited editions of twelve life size bronzes and twelve eighteen-inch maquettes are available to order. For details, please contact Sculpture Linda Joyce Studio, at www.IconsandLegends.org
